Apply for Scholarship
Each year, through the generosity of its many donors, the Maryland Veterinary Foundation (MDVF) awards thousands of dollars in educational scholarships to deserving Maryland residents who are pursuing veterinary medical education.
Scholarships are awarded to applicants that demonstrate financial need as well as excellence in leadership, communications, compassion for animals, professional experience and/or activities.
A total of $24,500 in scholarship funds is available for this academic year.
To be considered for one or more of the scholarships listed below, applicant must:
- Be a Maryland resident.
- Be a current second, third, or fourth-year veterinary student enrolled in an AVMA-accredited or ECFVG-listed veterinary college
- Have applied for financial aid.
- Provide all required documentation listed in the application.
- Answer all application essay questions.
Deadline to apply is Sunday, November 19, 2023.
Recipients will be selected by the Board of Trustees of the Maryland Veterinary Foundation. Funds awarded will be restricted to educational expenses. Scholarship checks will be made payable to the recipient and mailed no later than April 15, 2024. Recipients must report the award amount to the College or University’s Scholarship and Financial Aid office.

Available Scholarships
MD Veterinary Foundation Scholarships
Four $2,000 scholarships awarded to deserving second, third, or fourth-year students.
Dr. A. Cleveland Brown Scholarship
$2,000 awarded to a deserving fourth-year student.
Dr. Robert C. Hammond Scholarship
$2,000 awarded to a deserving third-year student that has shown resiliency and perseverance to overcome personal and/or professional challenges before or during veterinary college.
Dr. John E. Hayes Scholarship
$2,000 awarded to a deserving second, third, or fourth-year student.
MDVMA Leadership Scholarship
$2,000 awarded to a deserving fourth-year student who has demonstrated leadership abilities. Presented from donations made by MDVMA’s current and past leaders.
Dr. Harry L. Schultz Jr. Memorial Scholarship
$2,000 awarded to a deserving third-year student. Preference given to residents of Baltimore City or Baltimore County.
Ray Thompson Communication Scholarship
$2,000 awarded to a deserving second, third, or fourth-year student who has demonstrated exceptional communication skills.
Dr. Gary Roop Scholarship
$1,500 awarded for three consecutive years to a deserving second-year student attending any AVMA-accredited Veterinary College of Medicine in the United States.
Carvel and Lorraine Tiekert Scholarship
$3,000 awarded to a deserving second, third, or fourth-year student. Preference given to residents of Harford County.
