Tragedy stuck the home of the Virginia Maryland Regional College
of Veterinary Medicine April 16 when more than 30 people were
shot and killed. Many MVMA members are VMRCVM alumni and the
association shares the pain of all its friends in Blacksburg,
Virginia.

Animal Emergency Response Program Established in Maryland
SART (State Animal Response Teams) and PetSmart Charities are
proud to announce the launch of the Maryland State Animal
Response Team (MD SART). The training and certification process
was partially-funded through a $20,000 development grant from
PetSmart Charities and administered through SART.

Influenza Virus
University of Florida researchers report
that outbreaks of canine influenza virus, which causes an acute
respiratory infection, have been identified in dogs in shelters,
humane societies, boarding facilities and veterinary clinics in
Florida, predominantly in Broward, Dade, Palm Beach and Duval

the association on a new public relations initiative. MVMA is
publishing monthly animal health tips for consumers. We are
building an e-mail list of Maryland pet owners. We’re
publishing these tips on our web site
and broadcasting them out to interested consumers. The purpose
is to position MVMA members as the preferred source of
