First Fall Semester for
the MVMA Student Chapter at VMRCVM
by Sarah
Peloquin, Class of 2015
The MVMA Student Chapter at
Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine has
been busy during their first fall semester. The new-formed club
has 43 members, including students from every class at VMRCVM.
With help from the MVMA, the Student Chapter has been able to
bring in several speakers to talk to the club; these have
included Dr. Karyn Havras, who spoke to the club about applied
epidemiology, and Dr. Gary Vroegindewey, who discussed the
benefits of becoming an MVMA member. Along with this, the MVMA
Student Chapter officers were able to meet up with MVMA officers
Dr. Tom Armitage, Dr. Krista Evans, and Dr. Jan Ginsky on Mentor
Day. Plans were discussed to further promote the MVMA’s presence
down at VMRCVM, and all parties involved helped to brainstorm
potential collaboration events in the future.
The MVMA officers have also been
discussing fundraisers to raise more money for the club, and
will continue to recruit speakers to help educate members. If
you or anyone you know has an interest in coming to speak with
the club, please email Eve Waters at
egwaters@vt.edu. Overall,
it has been a very successful semester for the first MVMA
Student Chapter at VMRCVM! |
