MVMA Members Participate
in VMRCVM Mentorship Program

The Maryland Veterinary Medical
Association (MVMA) has announced the start of the 2012 mentorship program with the
Virginia Veterinary Medical Association (VVMA). Since 2004,
members of the MVMA and the VVMA volunteer to serve as mentors
to students at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of
Veterinary Medicine (VMRCVM). MVMA and VVMA volunteers are
paired with students from VMRCVM to provide trusted advising
experience and wisdom to help guide, encourage and foster the
professional development of each student, and establish lasting
friendships among industry peers.
Mentors and students met in October
at the VMRCVM campus in Blacksburg, Va., for the mentor dinner.
Additionally, the VMRCVM hosted the Mentor Kick-off Breakfast.
The kick-off weekend presented MVMA and VVMA members the perfect
opportunity to meet VMRCVM students. More than 200 students and
veterinarians participated in the kick-off breakfast.
“The mentorship program is a wonderful opportunity for MVMA
members to share their diverse veterinary experience to help
guide and inspire young veterinary talent,” said Dr. Kris Evans,
president of MVMA. “We hope that our members establish trusting
and lasting partnerships as they share their veterinary
experience and knowledge with the future leaders of the
veterinary community.
“This outstanding program allows our students to build
relationships with practicing veterinarians and explore possible
career paths, particularly in private and public practice.” said
Dr. Gerhardt Schurig, dean of the Virginia-Maryland Regional
College of Veterinary Medicine. “Thanks to our strong
partnerships with the MVMA and VVMA and their many volunteers,
our students are further appreciating what it means to be a
veterinarian outside of the classroom and the teaching
hospital.”
