by Dr. Jan Ginsky,
VMRCVM students at
this fall's White Coat Ceremony.
We’ve had a busy fall with the
Virginia Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine.
The incoming first year students started their veterinary school
days with a week of orientation activities ending with the
“White Coat’ ceremony on August 22nd. In attendance from the
VMAs along with myself, were Dr. Eric Boshoven (MVMA
President-Elect), Dr. Mark Finkler (VVMA President), Dr. Jeff
Newman (VVMA President-Elect), and Dr. Shawn Sette (WVVMA
After a luncheon, with the new students and their families, Dr.
Gerhardt Schurig, former dean of the college, gave his final
remarks to the incoming class, and presented them with their
first white coats. Drs. Finkler, Newman and I gave them their
new stethoscopes; gifts from the MVMA and VVMA.
In October I, along with 10 other members of the MVMA, and
approximately 45 VVMA members, participated in the Mentor event
at the college on October 17 and 18. We had an opportunity to
meet with students from the first year class, as well as our
mentees from the 2nd-4th year classes. It was wonderful to learn
about our future colleagues.
The MVMA and the MVMA Student Chapter held a reception the
evening of the 18th. MVMA members and 35 Maryland students
attended. We were all able to mingle and get to know each other.
Everyone had a wonderful time, and we’re looking forward to this
becoming a long standing tradition with our students.
