Clinical Veterinarian

SoBran, Inc. has an opportunity to serve as the clinical veterinarian for animals in the NIAID Animal Care Program at Animal Biosafety Levels 1 through 3. Assist with acquisition of animals from non-approved sources as defined in NIH Manual 3043-1.

Provide clinical care, research support, and regulatory oversight for all species within the CMB animal facilities located in Bethesda, Rockville and Poolesville, Maryland campuses.

• Perform semi-annual health exams and physicals for all regulated species within CMB animal facilities.

• Serve as the main back up to all facility veterinarians in support of the CMB animal facilities.

• Provide technical and necropsy support for animal study proposals conducted at ABSL 1-3 animal facilities.

• Participate on a rotational basis in the weekend and holiday veterinary coverage roster.

• Review Diagnostic Support Services reports and monitor reports for strain, facility, and program trends.

• Maintain and perform QA on controlled substance logs and animal medical records.

• Assist with the process of importing and quarantining/isolating animals into CMB animal facilities.

• Understand the current SOP’s of the CMB and assist in developing or updating SOP’s relative to CMB operations.

• Assist with technical training for CMB staff.

• Assist with investigator facility orientations.

• Assist in the development of an infectious agent outbreak disaster plan and implement the plan as needed in accordance with CMB SOPs.
