A new student chapter of the Maryland Veterinary Medical Association has been initiated at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. The organization will serve to strengthen the connection between the MVMA and all veterinary students at VRMCVM.

Heading this chapter are four student officers: Raj Naik, Eve Waters, Sarah Peloquin, and Griffin McDonald. Dr. Valerie Ragan of the Center for Public and Corporate Veterinary Medicine on the College Park, MD campus of VMRCVM serves as the faculty advisor to the club. Here are your new officers:

President: Raj Naik

Raj is a third-year veterinary student at VMRCVM following the small animal track. His primary interests include nutrition and clinical pathology, but he looks forward to exploring the many career paths that veterinary medicine has to offer. He also intends to pursue an internship and residency after graduation.

Originally from Gaithersburg, MD, he hopes to return to the region after his residency. Raj is excited to help develop a strong MVMA presence at VMRCVM.

Vice President: Eve Waters

Eve is a DVM candidate in VMRCVM’s Class of 2015, and is pursuing a mixed track in small and food animal medicine. She is from Silver Spring, MD and graduated from Cornell University in 2011 with a degree in Animal Science and honors for distinction in research.

In addition to her position as the Vice President of MVMA Student Chapter, Eve is also involved at VMRCVM as an officer for Alpha Psi, as a member in FAPC, SCAVMA, and as a VMRCVM Ambassador.

This summer Eve is looking forward to an internship at NIH and spending some down time with her family and their many pets.

Secretary: Sarah Peloquin

Sarah is a DVM candidate in VMRCVM’s Class of 2015, and is tracking Mixed Animal (small animal and equine). She is originally from Westminster, MD and graduated from Juniata College in 2011 with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology.

Along with MVMA Student Chapter, she is involved in SCAVMA, Alpha Psi, and SCAAEP.

Sarah enjoys horseback riding and running, and in her free time she loves playing with her 2 year old Jack Russell/beagle mix, Sawyer.

Treasurer: Griffin McDonald

Griffin is from Germantown, Maryland and is a member of the
Class of 2015. He completed his undergraduate work in Biological Sciences from Virginia Tech, graduating in 2011.

Before starting vet school, Griffin worked in laboratory animal medicine at the National Institutes of Health. He has also worked at Woodfield Veterinary Clinic, a mixed-animal practice in Damascus, MD since his senior year in high school.

Griffin is excited about being a founding member of the Student Chapter of the MVMA and is ready to help bridge the gap between the MVMA and the VMRCVM campus.
