The incumbent will plan, manage, organize and direct the CBER Animal Care and Use Program as well as the regulatory review functions of the Division of Veterinary Services (DVS) as requested in the premarket review of human biological products when animals are involved in the production, nonclinical testing, or safety testing of the products. The incumbent will provide leadership to subordinate supervisors, team leaders, and veterinary medical officers in the operation of the DVS to assure compliance with all requirements of research animal use and of the regulatory review functions of the DVS.

Qualifications: Eligible individuals will be U.S. Citizens with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree, i.e., Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), obtained at a school or college of veterinary medicine accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education (AVMA). If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Candidates with experience in the care and use of laboratory animals are highly desired.

Applicants must have a current, valid license from one of the fifty U. S. states that allows the practice of veterinary medicine and be accredited to issue health certificates.

This position may be filled under the Excepted Service Title 42 appointment.
