ANSWERS TO
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
User fees must
be paid by check or money order made payable to “USDA, APHIS,
VS”.
If user fee
charges are routine, then an account may be opened with USDA,
APHIS. Please contact the MD/DE/DC Area Office (phone number
410-349-9708), for information on how to apply for an account.
The animal
import regulations of other countries may be found on the
Internet. This website is maintained by USDA, APHIS, Veterinary
Services and is always up-to-date. The URL is
http://www.aphis.usda.gov/vs/ncie.iregs/animals.
All livestock,
horses, poultry and bird certificates for international export
must be issued by a federally accredited veterinarian and
endorsed by USDA, APHIS, Veterinary Services. Pet dog and cat
certificates may or may not require our endorsement. When
endorsement is necessary, it is because it is required by the
country of destination. Commercial shipments of dogs and cats,
(usually defined by the country of destination as animals not
traveling with an owner, or more than two animals in a
shipment), usually require a USDA, APHIS, Veterinary Services
endorsement of their international health certificate.
Certificates for
endorsement may be mailed to our office with original copies of
all laboratory tests results, and a check or money order to
cover the user fee. The postal service is too slow in some
situations. Therefore certificates for endorsement may be sent
to our office by Federal Express, UPS, or overnight mail with a
prepaid air bill or stamped and addressed express mail envelope
enclosed for return. We can only pay return charges or postage
for regular mail, to return certificates to a sender.
Clients may also
hand carry certificates to our office for endorsement. If they
wish to do this they will need to schedule an appointment. Our
appointments are scheduled Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to
3:00PM. However, it behooves your client to call for an
appointment for this service.
