Heritage does not offer after hours emergency services. However, the veterinarians are responsible for reporting to work at the scheduled shift and staying until all patient care, client communication, and documentation is recorded.

Veterinary Technician

Job Description
The veterinary technician is responsible for performing advanced veterinary treatment under the supervision of a veterinarian licensed by the State of Maryland. Duties include: providing exceptional patient care performing various veterinary medical procedures and support: monitoring patients; placing intravenous catheters; performing critical care treatments; assisting veterinarians in surgery; taking radiographs; filling medications; and providing instruction to clients. All technicians bear the responsibility of acting as charge technicians when assigned, and are responsible for assigning duties and directing the flow of the treatment room.

Veterinary Pathologist

Job Description
SoBran is seeking a Veterinary Pathologist to serve at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. Responsibilities will include:

Responsible for supporting the operations of a full-service histopathology laboratory as part of the Comparative Medicine Branch (CMB) to provide pathology services to NIAID/Division of Intramural Research investigators. Investigations require detailed histopathologic, immunohistochemical, and molecular analyses of tissue specimens of both naturally occurring and experimentally infected animal models, which are conducted at Animal Biosafety Levels (ABSL) 2 and 3. NIAID/DIR animal facilities house a variety of laboratory animal species, including many genetically engineered rodents and several non-rodent species, such as non-human primates.
Evaluation and interpretation of histopathologic specimens, including special stains, IHC, and ISH
Perform gross necropsies and train technical staff in post-mortem sample collection techniques in ABSL 2 and 3
Prepare and/or collaborate in the preparation of technical reports on the results of investigations and studies, presents results on current findings at scientific meetings and conferences, and prepares manuscripts for publication in scientific journals
Maintain integrity of the research process, including detailed accurate record keeping
Manage schedule to attend meetings with investigators and sample collection, outside the laboratory if necessary, to assist in coordinating animal research needs
Ability to work flexible hours to ensure research needs and experiments are carried out to comply with appropriate timeline
Maintain effective communications, interpersonal working relationships, professionalism, and teamwork with pathologists and histotechnologists
Provide professional consultation to appropriate staff regarding anatomy, physiology, pathology, veterinary care, and clinical diseases of laboratory animals
Provide laboratory support for epidemic investigations associated with emerging zoonotic infectious diseases and provide field guidance and advice for proper collection techniques for specimens from animal sources * Perform other duties as assigned
